The next generation of small business leaders will receive the training and support they need to launch their own business under a Deb Frecklington LNP Government.
Shadow Minister for Small Business Fiona Simpson today launched the LNP’s Young Entrepreneurs Program as one of two new LNP policies announced during Queensland Small Business Week with award-winning young entrepreneur Joanna Kristoffersen of iJetski Pty Ltd.
Ms Simpson said an LNP Government will inspire the next generation of business owners who dream of being independent and give them the opportunity to receive life-changing training.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Queensland’s economy, growing local jobs and helping to build our cities and towns with their sponsorship of sports and community groups. The LNP’s plan delivers the support they deserve,” Ms Simpson said.
“We want to help existing businesses get ahead and support the next generation of small business leaders.“That’s why we have a plan to mentor 8000 young Queenslanders in high youth unemployment regions and provide them with the tools they need to launch their own small business.
“Our Young Entrepreneurs Program will ignite the spark in Queensland’s youth and showcase the opportunities available to them.
Joanna Kristofferson, winner of last year’s Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Sustainable Business Award said that the program would help give young Queenslanders some of the business and financial literacy skills they need to start their own business.
“There is so much to learn when you start out in business,” Ms Kristoffersen said.
“Training and mentoring programs like this are invaluable for young people who have a business idea and need help getting started.”
Ms Simpson said that Queensland’s small business confidence has hit rock bottom under Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
“There is high unemployment, a youth jobs crisis in regional Queensland, low wage growth and a lack of confidence under Labor,” Ms Simpson said.
“Repeated business surveys show that business conditions and profitability continue to weaken rapidly.
“Only the LNP is committed to backing small business and making Queensland the economic powerhouse it once was.”
