Local business owners may be interested to know that from 1 July 2014 the Queensland workers’ compensation scheme will have the cheapest average premium rate in the country for businesses and the strongest safety net for workers.
As part of our commitment to re-building the Queensland economy and helping local businesses to grow more jobs, the State Government has made changes to WorkCover which include:
· Reducing the average premium rate by 17%;
· Wiping clean the claims history of over 93% of Queensland businesses under a simpler premium model;
· Giving businesses greater flexibility to pay the premium by instalment.
This means that an extra $1 billion is being put back into the pockets of Queensland business owners over the next four years.
Queensland workers will still be protected, and able to get financial assistance, under the statutory no-fault scheme. We are also the only state to cover all journey claims to and from work and our return-to-work rate of 95.7% is one of the best in the country.
