The State Labor Government has introduced legislation to effectively ban non-Labor aligned unions.
Despite the fact Queensland teachers and nurses had been voting with their feet to join some of the other unions, Labor has now made these alternatives effectively illegal.
This could cost teachers and nurses an extra $400 each in union fees than the alternative non-Labor aligned unions. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been donated to the Labor Party from their affiliated unions and via Queensland Council of State Unions who also channels donations on behalf of unions.
I believe Queenslanders have a right to decide if they want to belong to a union or not, and the right to choose their union. Labor doesn’t agree.
It’s a rort. It’s an abuse of power and it’s anti-democratic.
That’s why we’ve labelled this bill as “payback” legislation.
