I was delighted to mark this year’s National Volunteers Week with 260 of our valued Sunshine Coast volunteers co-hosting a celebration in Cotton Tree Park with Volunteering Sunshine Coast.
Mayor Mark Jamieson joined me in honouring our volunteers for the important contribution they make to our local community by presenting certificates of appreciation and lapel pins.
Special thanks also to Volunteering Sunshine Coast, The Lions Club of Maroochydore, St John Ambulance Service, Guide Dogs Queensland and the Sunshine Coast Council for their assistance in providing the entertainment, refreshments and first aid.
Volunteers are the backbone of our local clubs and organisations, many of whom provide essential services to our local community, and each and every one of them deserves to be recognised and thanked for all that they do.
National Volunteer Week (13th – 19th May 2013) provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers who donate their time and energy to help others in our community and this year’s theme was “Thanks a million” to the 6 million Australians who contribute more than 700 million hours of community service to so many areas of society.
Volunteering Sunshine Coast play a vital role in linking volunteers with not-for-profit organizations who are seeking assistance and they also provide training and support.
