Our public transport system needs fixing and I’m calling for better bus services to support the Sunshine Coast’s growing population stronger action to tackle fare evasion and safety issues.
I am asking you to support my on-line petition calling on the State Labor Government to deliver a better public transport system which takes people where and when they need to go, with more services and more seamless connections, so that more people will choose to take buses and trains.
READ MORE:
We have approximately 8,000 extra people living here every year, but statistics show that fewer people are using the bus than five years ago and I’m hearing more and more complaints about bad behaviour and fare evasion on our buses.
It’s clear that more needs to be done to make the bus a viable alternative to taking the car if we are to avoid more congestion and parking issues in the future.
I am also asking the Minister for more Transport Officers to cover the Sunshine Coast region to crack down on the fare evasion and safety issues on our bus services. We need to ensure that all passengers are doing the right thing and that the majority of responsible passengers aren’t being held to ransom by the minority who behave badly and don’t pay their way.
