The $80 rebate from the State Government appeared in the last water bill for Sunshine Coast residents fulfilling our election commitment.
This is a one-off payment of $80 to provide SEQ households with help in reducing cost-of-living expenses. For households receiving a water bill from Unitywater, the rebate will be applied as a deduction on their first water bill of 2013.
The rebate provides temporary relief from the rising cost of water bills for SEQ households. The costs of supplying bulk water have been driven up by the former government’s introduction of a large bulk water grid in SEQ.
The Queensland Government has amalgamated the SEQ bulk water entities into a single entity, Seqwater, from 1 January 2013 as part of a longer-term solution to address bulk water costs by cutting the size of the bureaucracy and overhead costs.
Residents of unit complexes will receive the rebate if they receive an individual water bill from their SEQ water service provider. The rebate will also be provided to residents of SEQ retirement villages, including relocatable homes (also known as manufactured homes) that are solely for retirees, who do not receive a water bill directly from an SEQ water service provider.
