State Government Grants available to local community groups

Local community organisations have the opportunity to share in a total of $1.3 million in small grants to help fund essential items and equipment.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the funding was available under the third round of the government’s $4 million Caring for our Community program.

Ms Simpson said the Caring for our Community grants program provides a fantastic opportunity for community organisations to improve their facilities and upgrade their resources.

Small grants of up to $5,000 are available for the purchase of essential items and equipment. A small number of grants up to $15,000 may be available depending on the needs of particular communities.

“The cost of equipment or infrastructure can be costly for not for profit groups and these grants can be a great boost,” Ms Simpson said.

“Grants are available to cover a wide range of items from printers, computers, fridges or microwaves to shade sails, lawn mowers and sporting equipment.

Ms Simpson encouraged local community groups to apply for a grant in this third funding round which is now open.  Applications for grants close on Friday 26 September 2014.

To assist local community groups in applying for grants, Ms Simpson will be holding information forums with State Government grants officers on hand to provide advice and answer questions.
