Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson today welcomed news of the State Government’s commitment to the Sunshine Coast Airport project with the gifting of land to Council at no cost.
Ms Simpson thanked the Premier and Deputy Premier for the State Government’s support in making a significant contribution to the proposed $418.6 million Sunshine Coast airport expansion project as part of plans to drive airport expansion and create employment across Queensland.
“This project is key to the economic growth of the Sunshine Coast and the transfer of strategic parcels of State Government owned land to Council at no cost is a very significant contribution to help move this project forward,” Ms Simpson said.
“Having all the land under one tenure will help Council to raise the capital to build this vital piece of infrastructure.”
“The proposed new east-west runway would enable larger, longer-haul planes to land here on the Sunshine Coast.”
“This will be a major boost for the Sunshine Coast economy and will help grow higher-value jobs.”
“The airport expansion is expected to generate approximately 5,000 new jobs in construction, tourism, ancillary services and aviation-related business and will help to deepen and strengthen the economic base of the Sunshine Coast region,” Ms Simpson said.
