Visitors to the Sunshine Coast will find their way around the Maroochy North Shore with ease thanks to an LNP
commitment to fund new road signage on the Sunshine Motorway.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson met with members of the Marcoola business community today to announce news of $150,000 in funding for better tourism signage on the Sunshine Motorway if LNP win Government at the next election.
Ms Simpson said that business owners in North Shore towns such as Marcoola and Pacific Paradise had
frequently asked for more signage for the Sunshine Motorway to better direct tourists to their accommodation and businesses.
“Business owners and accommodation providers have been asking me to help with a solution so that
visitors can take a more direct route and discover the hidden gems of the Maroochy North Shore area.
“But there's a limit to how many towns can be listed on current directional signage and still be clearly seen,”
Ms Simpson said.
“The answer is to boost tourism signage to show more destinations with greater clarity. This will help
visitors to towns like Marcoola, Pacific Paradise and Mt Coolum so they're less likely to miss the correct exit and end up in Coolum.
“New tourism signage on the Sunshine Motorway north of the Maroochy River will help inform visitors to the
Maroochy North Shore.”
President of the North Shore Traders Association Eric Van Meurs said this was welcome news for small
businesses in the area who were keen to attract more customers and see the local community prosper.
“The Maroochy North Shore area is a very special place and we want to make it easier for visitors to find us so
they can stay in our fantastic accommodation, enjoy our unspoilt beaches and spend money in our local shops, cafes and restaurants,” Mr Van Meurs said.
“Fiona has heard the concerns of local businesses and this is a great solution.”
Ms Simpson said that small business is the backbone of the Sunshine Coast economy and the main provider of
local jobs.
“Small business owners are often mums and dads who work hard to provide an income for their families and
employment opportunities for our young people so they don’t have to move away to find work,” Ms Simpson said.
Ms Simpson said that a vote for anyone other than the LNP will see a return of a do-nothing Labor Government
which has failed to support small business.
“I want to keep the Sunshine Coast beautiful and ensure that our local communities prosper,” Ms Simpson
said.
Improving tourism signage on the Sunshine Motorway is part of our plan to support local communities on the
Sunshine Coast and Build a Better Queensland.”
