Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson has said the Mayor is not playing with a straight bat over plans for an entertainment and convention centre in Maroochydore.
State MP Fiona Simpson has called on Mayor Jamieson to stop playing secret games over Council’s plans for the entertainment and convention centre which she said were fuelling concerns about a possible casino.
“Secrecy doesn’t help advocacy. I’ve been asking the Mayor since last year to provide me with briefing on Council’s plans and he has refused.
“I’m keen as mustard to work with the Mayor and Council to progress this civic infrastructure project as it will be great for the Sunshine Coast but I do need the Mayor to be more helpful in sharing information about Council’s plans.
“It’s quite frustrating when you approach the Mayor with offers of help and he refuses to even provide briefings on Council’s proposal or advice about whether he is lodging submissions with the State Government.
“We are both elected representatives and the people who elected us expect us to work together as a team and that means the Mayor needs to share this information and work cooperatively so we can get a good outcome for Sunshine Coast residents.”
