Local businesses and residents of the Sunshine Coast who are struggling to pay their water bills don’t need another hike in water prices.
This week in Parliament I called on the State Labor Government to reject the Queensland Competition Authority’s recommendation for a further increase in water prices.

A 400 per cent increase in bulk water prices over 10 years is Labor’s legacy thanks to its multi billion-dollar water grid failures that delivered pipes without dams and dams without pipes. This put us on a water price path spiral based on paying back large amounts of debt for failed water projects such as Traveston Dam and Tugun desalination plant. It’s a disgrace.
This Labor Government are not sorry for the greatest financial bungle in Queensland’s history under their rule. They have washed their hands of their responsibility over water price hikes and they are in denial that there are better ways to take the pressure off everyday Queenslanders’ financial budgets.
