Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson has questioned the Labor Premier’s priorities for spending $250m of taxpayer’s money on a controversial cash bonus to the public sector while failing to fund the Sunshine Coast’s rail duplication.
“How can the Premier cry poor for the rail duplication and blame other people for her failure to fund 50% of it, while she gives away $250m cash bonus without blinking,” Ms Simpson said.
“Her priorities are wrong. The $250m cash bonus is over and above the already negotiated 2.5% wage rise for the public sector so where are her priorities. She is wasteful and reckless and it’s costing local people,” Ms Simpson said.
“Just this morning I talked to a local worker who told me that the rail duplication would mean jobs for his local community and help workers get to work quicker, unclogging the Bruce Highway,” Ms Simpson said.
“It’s vital for the whole Sunshine Coast – whether you work in the private sector or public sector – but the State Labor Government are playing spoilers.
“The Premier has no shame in holding on to a dodgy Treasurer who broke the rules of Cabinet in not declaring her investment home in multi-billion Cross River Rail project area. The Premier also has no shame in spoiling desperately needed infrastructure such as rail.”
