The Coolum Men’s Shed will have a new place to call home in the New Year, Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson announced today.
Ms Simpson said the Queensland Government had worked with the Men’s Shed Association to identify a suitable site for the Coolum Men’s Shed to relocate to.
The new 660m2 site is located on Research Street, Coolum and is owned by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ).
Ms Simpson said that EDQ had agreed to lease the site to the Coolum Men’s Shed until 2020 at a nominal rate of $1 per annum.
Ms Simpson praised the efforts of Coolum Men’s Shed President Trevor Ryan who had worked closely with the Government Land and Asset Management (GLAM) division within the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) to find a suitable site.
“The Coolum Men’s Shed group has outgrown their existing facility in the Quanda Road Industrial Estate and their President Trevor Ryan has worked exceptionally hard to find an affordable site for the club to move to,” Ms Simpson said.
“I have made representations to the Deputy Premier on behalf of several Men’s Sheds in my electorate who are looking for new homes.”
“The Deputy Premier has personally assured me that he is keen to support the work of Men’s Sheds and that GLAM are actively engaged in identifying suitable sites for these groups.”
“I pleased to see that the Coolum group have been successful if finding a new site and I will continue to work hard to support this worthy cause.”
“This group now has a site, but more work needs to be done to provide funding for the development of the new site and to build a new shed.”
