As you know I received a response from the Environment Minister regarding the outcome of the Mudjimba Island Feasibility Study and her advice that the government has decided to install six Reef Protection Markers (RPMs) instead of permanent moorings around Mudjimba Island to protect the reef. The RPMs are to indicate where people can anchor without harming coral, as opposed to moorings they can use to save having to drop anchors on coral.
I am disappointed that after repeated requests, the Minister will not release the Feasibility Report into the issue and solutions that was commissioned after my requests. I believe the community should be able to view the report, and be part of ensuring that the best solution is chosen.
The reef protection markers will be installed shortly.
