Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson today lead by example and rolled up her sleeves to participate in the Australian Red Cross Easter blood drive.
She urged locals to spare an hour of their time over the Easter break to help save up to three lives.
Fiona Simpson said that blood stocks can become very low during the Easter holiday period so it is vital that Sunshine Coast donors make an appointment to give blood to help replenish vital stocks.
A dangerously-low number of appointments on the Sunshine Coast this Easter holiday has prompted the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to launch an Easter blood drive.
The Sunshine Coast Donor mobile and the Maroochydore and Nambour Donor Centres still need 375 extra donors between 30 March and 5 April to bolster supplies for cancer patients this Easter.
“Many Australians who are in hospital or in need of blood need your help now,” Ms Simpson said.
“Cancer patients in particular rely upon blood products to help them through their chemotherapy treatments.”
“That’s why we need Sunshine Coast residents to get behind the Easter blood drive and make an appointment to give blood between 30 March and 5 April.”
