Construction is about to begin on the new Maroochydore bus station with the awarding of a $6.8 million contract today.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the contract had been awarded following a competitive tender process for the delivery of this crucial piece of infrastructure for public transport passengers.
“Golding Contractors has been awarded the $6.8 million construction contract to build the new Maroochydore bus station, with major works to begin in the coming weeks,” Ms Simpson said.
“The contract includes the construction of the new bus station on Horton Parade near Cornmeal and Sunseeker Parade, which will replace the existing station at Sunshine Plaza.
“The new bus station will create a transport hub for Sunshine Coast commuters and provide convenient access to Sunshine Plaza and other nearby shopping facilities.
Ms Simpson said the project would deliver a modern, high-quality facility with better and safer access to services.
“The new bus station will provide bus shelters with high-quality sheltered areas for commuters with seating, lean rails and improved passenger information,” she said.
“The bus station will be equipped with safety features including improved lighting and security cameras with 24-hour video recording.
“It will also provide secure bicycle storage and end-of-trip facilities such as showers and public toilets.”
Transport and Main Roads is constructing the new station, with Sunshine Coast Regional Council as a key project partner, providing $2.5 million towards construction of high-quality streetscaping at the new bus station.
The total cost for the project is $7.1 million, with Transport and Main Roads funding an additional $300,000 worth of pre-construction works and other related costs.
