Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson today congratulated the Coolum and District Netball Association and the Coolum Croquet Club on gaining funding through the first round of the Get Playing funding.
Ms Simpson said that the Coolum and District Netball Association will receive $26,000 to install shade structures and the Coolum Croquet Club’s $4,900 grant will help install irrigation on their croquet lawns under the State Government’s program.
The State Government’s $18 million grassroots funding program has been a huge hit with Queensland’s sporting and recreation clubs.
“Queensland’s grassroots sporting and recreation clubs are the backbone of local communities and this funding makes it possible for local clubs to upgrade and improve their facilities,” Ms Simpson said.
Acting Sport and Recreation Minister Tracy Davis today announced more than 80 Queensland clubs, including two in the Maroochydore electorate, would receive grants of up to $100,000 to improve infrastructure and facilities.
“The State Government’s flagship Get in the Game program is part of our commitment to easing the cost of living burden for Queensland families, and the initial response has been overwhelming,” Ms Davis said.
“More than 240 clubs applied for round one of Get Playing and there were also over 900 applications for round one of Get Going, which provides up to $10,000 to assist clubs with equipment and activities to increase and sustain memberships.
“The first round of Get Started, a program which provides help with registration fees for kids who are least able to afford to join a sporting club, saw the allocations of 12,000 available vouchers exhausted in just three weeks.”
A full list of the 83 clubs who have received grants through the first funding round is available at www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/getinthegame or by calling 1300 656 191.
A second Get in the Game funding round will open in July 2013.
