Making Queensland Safer

Making Queensland Safer

Next week marks the final sitting week of Parliament for the year. It has been a monumental year in politics, with strong progress toward delivering on our commitment through Making Queensland Safer laws. As part of the Making Queensland Safer suite of legislation, Parliament passed key new laws, including Adult Crime, Adult Time for serious offences; Daniel’s Law which creates a public child sex offender register (named in remembrance of Daniel Morcombe); and making Jack’s Law permanent (named in remembrance of Jack Beasley) to help stop knife crimes; as well as strengthening early intervention and rehabilitation programs to support young people. These reforms are already having an impact with victim numbers down 6.5% (January to September 2025, per capita compared with 2024).

We have also introduced nation-leading laws to crack down on and penalise illegal traders of illicit tobacco and vapes. On the Sunshine Coast alone, since taking government, 158 penalty infringement notices have been issued for the supply and possession of illicit tobacco and nicotine products.
