Townsville and North Queensland homeowners face a tax hike of up to $3000 on new houses under the State Labor Government’s money grab.
On a visit to a Townsville building company Corinthian Constructions, LNP Shadow Minister for Small Business Fiona Simpson said the proposed State Labor waste tax and land tax hikes would hurt homeowners and tradies and the people they employed.
“Builders will be slugged more to get rid of the waste in their skip bins and this cost will be passed on to new homeowners,” Ms Simpson said.
“Labor’s also introduced a new land tax that will add to the cost of new homes.
“This is a tax on every Queensland household and many of our small businesses.”
Ms Simpson said it made no sense to slug all Queenslanders for a cross-border waste problem in southern Queensland.
“How does slugging somebody in regional Queensland deal with a problem of waste dumping at a handful of dumps in the south east corner?” she said.
“This waste tax is Labor’s fifth tax since November and will just add to the pressure Townsville families and small businesses are already struggling to cope with.
“Small businesses create jobs and should be encouraged to grow and be successful, not burdened by new taxes.
“The truth is that Labor are addicted to taxes as the only solution, rather than using existing powers and state approvals to crackdown on interstate dumping.”
