Local residents will have more access to arts and cultural events, with a State Government grant helping bolster the sector.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the State was granting the Sunshine Coast Regional Council $ 68,480 from the Regional Arts Development Fund as part of an ongoing partnership between state and local governments to deliver professional arts, cultural development and heritage projects annually.
“This will help make arts more available as well as creating jobs, boosting local businesses and tourism,” Ms Simpson said.
“This year marks the beginning of a new model for the fund, to streamline program management, reduce paperwork for councils and become more flexible and responsive to local communities’ interests and priorities.”
Arts Minister Ian Walker said in 2014-2015, the State is partnering with 59 Queensland councils which are being empowered to shape their own arts and cultural priorities.
“It’s inspiring to see how the fund makes a creative and cultural difference locally.
Mr Walker said a new arts and culture protocol between state and local government for 2014-2018 ensured a healthy partnership and ongoing strong support.
