Seniors and carers across the state can stretch their Christmas dollar further by using the Newman Government’s Business Discount Scheme that offers discounts to eligible card holders at more than 7000 businesses across the state.
Communities Minister Tracy Davis said the scheme gave holders of a Seniors Card, Seniors Business Discount Card or Carer Business Discount Card access to great savings on a wide range of products and services.
“The Newman Government committed to cut the cost of living for Queensland families and the business discount scheme does just that,” Ms Davis said.
“The scheme offers seniors and carers discounts at a range of retailers such as gift, electrical, jewellery and home furnishing stores as well as services including mechanical, cleaning and home improvements.
“When card holders need a break during their Christmas shopping, they can take advantage of the discounts offered at many local cafes and restaurants.”
Ms Davis said seniors and carers added much value to the lives of those around them and to their communities and the Queensland Government’s Business Discount Scheme was one way that the community gave back to these important community members.
“It’s wonderful to see so many businesses demonstrating their community spirit by offering discounts to some of the most deserving members of our communities.”
Ms Davis said the festive season was a busy time of year and she wanted to remind cardholders that this extra support was available to them.
Participating businesses can be found in the 2013-2014 Business Discount Directory, available from any library, government service centre, Centrelink office, Salvation Army Service Centre, or local members’ electorate offices.
Cardholders can also go online to locate business discount providers using the searchable database at www.qld.gov.au/seniorscard or www.qld.gov.au/carercard.
Ms Davis said the website was compatible with smartphones, enabling seniors and carers to find local business discount providers from wherever they are in Queensland.
