Everyone deserves to live in safety. After the shocking terrorist attack in Bondi where the Jewish community was attacked on Australian soil simply for being Jewish after a lead up of antisemitic attacks, it has put a spotlight on the fear too many live with. Our local Jewish community lost friends and colleagues in the attack.
The tough new laws tabled in Parliament last week deliver a suite of changes focused on terrorist symbols and phrases, and safety around places of worship, and is the first of several strong measures being delivered by the Crisafulli Government.
The reforms deliver on a commitment to help stamp out antisemitism and terrorist extremism to ensure every Queenslander – including the Jewish community, which has experienced a rise in antisemitic attacks – can live, worship and gather safely.
As the Premier Crisafulli said, words become vandalism, vandalism comes violence and violence becomes murder.
