I am so grateful for our country of Australia.
We all have different journeys. Whether we were born here or have chosen to make Australia our home, we equally share the opportunity and responsibility to create a better life for each generation that follows.
Australian citizenship is a social compact – a promise – that acknowledges the richness of our diverse cultures which makes up our identity while also committing to the unifying power of shared values that makes us a nation. These are the values of respect, belief in our democratic institutions, freedom, equality, and a fair go for all.
From these values, and the hard work of generations, a nation of peace, prosperity, and opportunity has been born.
Our state and country have a great future when people of good will aspire to build a better life for themselves, their families, and our country.
At the centre is community. Nation builders are community builders. They are everyday Aussies who don’t always have great titles but they do have great hearts, helping others when they see a need. This is on display when natural disasters as well as personal tragedies strike when the Aussie spirit comes to the fore in ordinary everyday people reaching out to help.
