Businesses and not-for-profit groups will learn how they can benefit from the new National Insurance Disability Scheme at a free information session being hosted by Sunshine Coast MPs Dan Purdie and Fiona Simpson.
The NDIS forum will be held at the Mike Ahern Building on Monday 5th November from 12 noon until 2pm with guest speakers from the Department of Communities and the National Insurance Disability Agency (NDIA).
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson and Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie are inviting interested members of the public to attend the forum so they can explore the new economic development and employment opportunities that will be
available when the NDIS is rolled out across the Sunshine Coast with effect from 1st January 2019.
Ms Simpson said that the NDIS is the new way of providing support for people living with disability, their families and carers.
“The NDIS will enable Queenslanders with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers to better manage their own support,” Ms Simpson said.
“It is expected to inject around $4 billion into Queensland’s economy and create up to 19,400 jobs across the state.
“We want to make sure that local businesses and not-for-profit groups are fully informed about the opportunities that will be available when it is rolled out across the Sunshine Coast in 2019.”
Mr Purdie said that the NDIS will provide a significant growth in the disability sector on the Sunshine Coast.
“According to the NDIA, we are expecting an 88% increase in the number of people receiving disability support on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Purdie said.
“We are expecting this extra funding will provide well over a thousand new full time equivalent jobs in disability services across the Sunshine Coast.
“We want the Sunshine Coast to be ready to take full advantage of the opportunities that will be available.”
