Queenslanders wanting to help farmers and ensure country towns endure the drought should consider cash donations to organisations helping support local jobs and services.
LNP Shadow Minister for Small Business Fiona Simpson said the generosity of Queenslanders was wonderful and cash donations helped farmers spend money locally and kept towns resilient.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Ms Simpson said campaigns such as the Western Queensland Drought Appeal gave cash cards or vouchers to drought-affected farmers so they could spend the money on food and essential services in their local town and keep local jobs and services alive.
“We should not forget that those small businesses are also hit by this terrible drought that our farming families are at the front line of,” Ms Simpson said in Parliament.
“I ask people to donate big and to also donate cash through these very worthy organisations.
“There are a number, but I give a shout-out to the Western Queensland Drought Appeal.”
