Maroochydore MP Fiona Simpson has questioned why the State Government has delayed releasing the promised independent flood study concerning the proposed Twin Waters West development.
Ms Simpson said that last year the Department of Local Government Infrastructure and Planning was saying the study would be completed by July, with an announcement expected by the Government in October and now the Minister is saying he still hasn’t received the Department’s report with the recommendations for action.
“That doesn't add up,” Ms Simpson said.
“I think they need to tell people why the timetable has been delayed.
“Has the Minister and his department received the report or not?
Ms Simpson said she has called on the State Labor Government to release the results of the independent flood modelling as people have a right to know the facts.
“The Deputy Premier agreed to the independent modelling but then deliberately refused to release the finished report before the election, which is completely unacceptable,” Ms Simpson said.
“Quite frankly the government are deliberately keeping this community in the dark when this information should be made publicly available.
“This is an issue not only for Twin Waters West but for the rest of the flood plain in the Maroochy Catchment.
“People are understandably worried that they could be negatively impacted by future development applications and they have a right to this information now and to ensure that all processes are handled with due care and scrutiny.”
