I am currently in a truck heading south on the Bruce Highway from Cairns to Brisbane to hear and see first-hand what is needed for this vital 1700km lifeline for Queensland.
I’ve been grabbing a ride with different trucking companies as they go about their normal business of moving freight the length and breadth of the state. It's a great way to see the work underway on the Bruce as part of the LNP's 10 year Action Plan while in Government and to keep a focus on lobbying the new Government to keep it going.
I’ve already received some great feedback from truck drivers, particularly about over-taking lanes. They have invaluable insight as to what needs to be done to make the Bruce Highway safer.
The LNP announced a 10 year Action Plan to deliver a record $10 billion in a deal with the Commonwealth Government to fund safety, flood mitigation and capacity works right across the Bruce Highway and the Gateway Motorway.
In the State Budget last year we announced up to $770 million in funding for improvements to the Bruce Highway, twice as much as previous Labor governments.
We are putting pressure on the present Labor Government to continue our commitment to fixing out national highway.
