The Sunshine Coast LNP team is calling on the Palaszczuk Government to deliver the infrastructure that this growing region desperately needs.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson spoke in Parliament to invite the Minister for Main Roads and the Minister for Transport to visit the Sunshine Coast so that the LNP team can show them the road and rail projects and other issues they have been lobbying for in parliament, in the media and in correspondence.
“Ministers Bailey and Hinchliffe might be on the other side of the Parliament, but I would welcome their interest and action in building the infrastructure that the Sunshine Coast region and its 340,000 people need to sustain their economy, their jobs and their sanity,” Ms Simpson said.
“I’m passionate about putting the Sunshine Coast first.
“Together with my colleagues in Team Sunshine Coast, we are advocating for better roads, better rail and better public transport to build on the success of the biggest hospital project in the Southern Hemisphere.
“Thanks to our efforts, this project, which is a real game changer, is underway in our region and the Sunshine Coast LNP team is responsible for making it happen.
Ms Simpson joined with other LNP colleagues who represent areas on the Sunshine Coast to speak with one voice in advocating for their region in the Parliament.
“We have all raised these issues many times in this parliament and in our communities and we will continue to do so until we see the project cross the finish line.
Ms Simpson said that the number one regional priority was the duplication of the North Coast Rail line, then the upgrade to the Bruce Highway south of the Sunshine Coast and the Mooloolah River Interchange (MRI) at the nexus of the Nicklin Way and Sunshine Motorway.
“The LNP team committed to funding the rail line duplication and the MRI as part of our election commitments but under Labor these projects have stalled
“The upgrade of the MRI is necessary to save lives and unlock a major bottleneck to the new hospital. Not only does this interchange have a very high accident rate, but it is a key access point to the network of roads that lead to the new hospital and it must get underway.
“Thanks to our Federal LNP colleagues we have seen funding provided to deliver the $1.13 billion upgrade to the Bruce Highway between Caloundra Road and the Sunshine Motorway.
“Work is about to widen this stretch of the highway and fix the safety issues at the interchanges.
“Andrew Wallace and Ted O’Brien are lobbying hard to bring forward the six laning of the Pine Rivers to Caloundra section too.
“Together with my Sunshine Coast LNP colleagues, Kawana MP Jarrod Bleijie, Noosa MP Glen Elmes, Glass House MP Andrew Powell, Buderim MP Steve Dickson and Caloundra MP Mark McArdle, and our federal colleagues Andrew Wallace, Lou O'Brien and Ted O'Brien, we have a plan for the Sunshine Coast to make it even better than it is already.”
