The national fuel crisis has put a spotlight on the need for sovereign capability for drilling, refining and storing fuel.
Last year before the war in the Middle East, the Crisafulli Government released new permits for oil, gas and coal exploration and this year the discoveries have shown potential for the biggest oil fields to be developed in 50 years in the Taroom Trough.
That’s why we’re calling on the Federal Government to make this a national priority and work with us to progress these fields with streamlined environmental approvals rather than adding extra layers, which last year’s new Federal laws created.
It’s also critical for there to be a national dashboard on the fuel coming into the country so industries can plan ahead. We will keep fighting for better transparency and supply as well as the medium and longer term solutions so that our nation – which is at the end of the world’s fuel supply chain – has sovereign capability. For more than a decade under Labor, fuel projects just didn’t get progressed and now it’s time to urgently rebuild our capacity.
