An angry Member for Maroochydore has labelled the State Labor Government as inept after it was revealed they’ve failed to get cracking on a major funded Federal Project to blitz a Bruce Highway blackspot on the Sunshine Coast.
“Labor’s not just asleep at the wheel in Queensland, they’ve been really sneaky and it comes at a cost of jobs and safety,” she said.
Fiona Simpson said that there had been no warning that the latest QTRIP figures outlining the construction schedule, released by the State Government today after the Budget, would show that the $1.134 Billion project to upgrade between the Caloundra Road and Sunshine Motorway interchange, was more than $135
million behind schedule.
“I can’t believe that even when Labor Governments are given money to build things, they can’t get their act together to even appear slightly timely,” Ms Simpson said.
“The Federal Government provides most of the funds but the State designs and constructs the Bruce Highway. The State was supposed to get construction underway this year, spending $182m but they’re now only spending $47m this financial year.
“They are absolutely hopeless. I am so angry that when there is a project largely funded by the Federal Government, the State Labor Government is the roadblock to seeing a safer road constructed and jobs created.
“This road project should be getting underway – it’s funded but they’re asleep at the wheel.”
