Sunshine Coast MP Fiona Simpson has vowed to hold Premier Annastacia Palasczcuk to her promise to be a
Premier for all of Queensland, seeking her support for Sunshine Coast infrastructure and services.
“I congratulate Premier Palasczcuk on her win and also for her promise that she would be a Premier not for the red or blue team but for Team Maroon,” Ms Simpson said.
“I'll be holding her to her promise to fairly treat areas which didn't vote for her and look forward to meeting with her and her Ministers and seeking their commitment to deliver the infrastructure and services the Coast needs.
“The Sunshine Coast has elected seven LNP members and one independent member and the public want to
know that the Labor Government will respect that and won't victimise the Sunshine Coast for making that choice.
“The Labor State Government who are in charge of the money has the chance to prove in the next three years whether they will keep their promise and be a Government that respects our region and will support its needs.
“Red, blue or purple, I'll work with whatever political colour and do whatever it takes, as long as they're fair dinkum about giving our region a fair go and working with the community and the community's elected representatives.”
Ms Simpson said it was disappointing that Labor promised very little for the Coast during the State election campaign which was in contrast to the LNP which committed that an LNP Government would:
* Duplicate the Sunshine Coast Rail,
* Build the Mooloolah River Interchange and Hospital link Road with upgrades to the Sunshine Motorway and * * Continue the LNP's commitment to a 10-year plan for the Bruce Highway including ensuring upgrades between Caboolture and Caloundra are delivered;
“We need the infrastructure spend on these critical projects to unlock the jobs of our region and keep the Sunshine Coast lifestyle,” Ms Simpson said.
Other commitments for an LNP Government in the Maroochydore electorate included a $720,000 funding boost
for the Suncoast Community Legal Service (after Annastacia Palaszczuk cut funding to the much-needed service*) providing new classrooms and getting rid of asbestos at Maroochydore High, public toilets at Mt Coolum National Park, help for Mudjimba Surf Club Club's building program, and revegetation work for
the Maroochy River Conservation Park.
(* Please note some media outlets wrongly reported that the Federal Government cut these funds when in fact it was the State Government as they were given the federal funds to allocate and gave it to other services
around the State).
