The Sunshine Coast needs jobs and I am keen to see investment in tourism which enhances our environment which is our strategic advantage.
I believe it is possible to have environmentally sustainable development which grows the economy and looks after the Sunshine Coast’s natural beauty.
Thus I have advised Palmer Resort owner Clive Palmer that the current concept plans are not appropriate in this location without modification as development on the sand dunes is not permitted as this area stabilises the shoreline. While there are no plans to impact Mt Coolum National Park, I also reconfirm that this area is off limits.
In respect to the proposed heights of buildings, I would be very surprised if local council would allow any new buildings to over shadow low rise residential in this area.
These plans are not applications before planning authorities – they concept plans and Mr Palmer has said he is keen to receive public feedback on them.
We are all custodians of ensuring the natural environment is respected and protected with good stewardship.
I am keen to work with local businesses and investors, including Mr Palmer, to help grow jobs on the Sunshine Coast which I believe can be done while ensuring we get the balance right for current and future generations. The development of the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital is a great indication of the LNP’s support for our local services and jobs.
