Seeing a GP is increasingly difficult, and with the State Labor Government’s Patient’s tax, more are under threat of leaving general practice or bulk billing.
The LNP has committed to abolishing the Labor Government’s tax on GPs and called on the State Labor Government to do the same.
With my colleagues in the LNP we have been fighting hard against this unfair new tax because doctors at the coalface of community care warned it would:
• Make doctor visits more expensive and scarcer;
• End bulk billing and ensure the closure of more GP clinics;
• Reduce after-hours care; and
• Put more pressure on Queensland hospitals meaning more ambulance ramping and longer waits committed to stopping the tax and take one more cost of living burden off Queenslanders.
In the middle of a health crisis, doctors said that this State Tax would mean even fewer would bulk bill and others would leave the profession.
The State Labor Government has for many years denied the calls for the tax to be abolished on local GPs, despite clear evidence of the harm they were warning it would have on local access to services. This has to change
