The rules are constantly changing, and most people are finding it difficult to stay up-to-date. My office is still getting inundated with Queenslanders that are desperate to come home and are at a loss having waited so long with no communication regarding their applications.
Today I was shocked to read that the Premier has cut staff in the exemptions unit whilst there are still thousands of border exemptions waiting to be processed. Why would you do this?
As I have said throughout the whole of the pandemic, there needs to be consistency and compassion, which we have not seen. In the area of border passes and exemptions we need to see some sort of urgency as more than 3000 Queenslanders need a way to come home safely and not be refugees in their own country. It is simply is a failure of the state government to lock people out of the state in which they live in.
