August saw Parliament resume after Budget Estimates and it was a big week. You can view my speeches below. There were some unfortunate events last week that saw the Premier lock out all returning and those relocating to Queensland. I heard some terrible stories and like many was in disbelief when in the midst of it hundreds of NRL players and their families entered Queensland. Applications for border passes have re-opened this week so hopefully we can start to get the reported 3,000 people back to Queensland.
It was ridiculous that the Queensland Government’s health advice deemed it safe for the NRL entourage to be able to relocate to Queensland while everyday Queenslanders were banned from returning home and even accessing hotel or home quarantine.
In particular you know things need urgent fixing when children are separated from their parents and immune compromised and sick people can’t get exemptions to safely come home and quarantine.
It shouldn’t take a high-profile media campaign to get the examples of these real people examined for appropriate exemptions to safely quarantine in Queensland.
