State MP and Queensland Speaker Fiona Simpson is inviting nominations for a local “Queensland Inspiring Woman” to be honoured at a breakfast at Queensland Parliament House.
Ms Simpson said the awards, which she is hosting, are to acknowledge the contributions made by the many amazing women in our communities, in recognition of International Women’s Day.
“One woman from each electorate will be acknowledged. There is a wonderful diversity of terrific women who generously give of their time and love of community to make our local areas safer, more caring and more liveable,” Ms Simpson said.
“These awards allow Members of State Parliament the opportunity to honour women who help strengthen our State through a variety of ways.”
The theme of this year’s event is “Women of Generosity” to honour women who demonstrate a spirit of generosity, whether through a particular initiative or through a lifestyle of service to others.
“I encourage you to get involved by nominating a local woman who has strengthened individuals or communities through their generosity of time or skill, in the area of business, community service, the arts, the environment or another arena.” Ms Simpson said.
If your nominee is from the Maroochydore Electorate, send it to the Maroochydore electorate office by Friday 14 February at Maroochydore@parliament.qld.gov.au. If your nomination is from another electorate, please contact the relevant local MP.
The nomination should include the name and contact details of the nominee, including a short description that demonstrates why they can be considered a ‘Woman of Generosity’.
Constituents making a nomination should also include their own name and contact phone number in case further details are required.
The breakfast and award ceremony will take place at Parliament House in Brisbane on March 7, 2014.
