Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson is reminding all Sunshine Coast motorists to slow down and don’t get distracted over the Easter holiday season.
Ms Simpson said that the State Government was launching a series of new road safety television advertisements across Queensland.
“Speed and inattention kill. It’s a very sobering message but we want people to return to their loved ones,”Ms Simpson said.
“We’ve come through the first quarter of 2014 with a considerably lower road toll than for the same period last year, but at this time of year with more cars, caravans and holiday makers on the road we need to be more alert than ever.
“Sadly during last year’s Easter break two motorists were hospitalised in my electorate alone and any death on our roads is too many,” Ms Simpson said.
The campaign forms part of the Queensland Government’s $350 million Road Safety Action Plan to and coincides with a National Police-coordinated Easter enforcement campaign running from 17 to 21 April.
“Rushing about and speeding to shave a few minutes off your journey time could lead to consequences that last a lifetime.”
