Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson MP has called for young people to have their say about what they believe the solutions are to the rising tide of violent assaults.
She is promoting their feedback live on line this Sunday afternoon between 4pm and 7pm in a “Stop the Violence” forum where she will facilitate a discussion with local community members and some experts. The forum will be hosted on her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FionaSimpsonMP.
“I welcome all ages to have their input but sometimes it is the voice of younger Australians which is under-represented. I’m particularly keen to hear their feedback about the problem and what they see as they solutions,” Ms Simpson said.
“I believe there is a community anger and distress about the recent violent attacks but there are also solutions. Government can look at penalties but the broader community issues as to why this is happening requires a range of solutions.”
Ms Simpson said it was encouraging also to see various groups starting up with an aim to promote an anti-violence message.
“I think this is good. It is about the community responding. Let’s find out what are the core problems causing the violence and what will be effective in addressing these issues. There is no one answer.”
