Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson has welcomed the second round of the State Government’s $300 million commitment to revitalise Queensland state schools.
Ms Simpson said the investment was part of the Advancing Our Schools Maintenance Fund, targeting school maintenance backlogs.
“Thanks to the latest round of funding 5 schools in Maroochydore electorate will receive over $525,000 to repair footpaths, replace carpet and repaint,” Ms Simpson said.
“This second round of funding will go a long way towards clearing the maintenance backlog in all Queensland state schools.”
Ms Simpson said that she had received positive feedback from local school Principals on how they have been able to get better value for money by employing local tradespeople to complete maintenance tasks.
“In some cases, our schools are saving up to 20 per cent on maintenance work by allowing local contractors to do the work which is also great news for our local economy.
“This is just another example of the State Government reducing red tape to cut wasteful spending and making life easier for Queenslanders.”
Ms Simpson said the previous Labor Government had left Queensland state schools with a $292 million maintenance backlog that saw some local schools in need of repair.
“It is important that our schools are well-maintained so that our students and teachers can work in a positive environment.
“This investment in education will ensure Queensland remains a great state with great schools well into the future.”
