Community concerns over the design of the Mooloolaba Seawall have led to a pause while Council reconsiders with a report due on May 30. I am hoping that this will result in a design that respects the local beach environment and enhances the community space while also getting it right for public access during construction so businesses and jobs aren’t killed.
On 18 January this year the former council voted at its Ordinary Meeting that a report that endorsed the project be presented to the new council before a construction tender was awarded.
This report will be presented at the council meeting on May 30.
This delay means that the lead time for programming and to procure materials for the coastal protection works before they could start working on the site will mean that the work will not commence this year.
This delay will also minimise disruption to the business community and as it will avoid the peak Christmas and new year trading seasons. This is better news for the tourism operators in the area. The current goal is to complete the project before Christmas 2026.
