Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson, has asked Sekisui House to involve the community in developing a resort facility that showcases the beauty of the Sunshine Coast.
She has asked Sekisui House to release their potential plans for development in Yaroomba and engage the community in the best plan to maintain the amenity and create local jobs.
Fiona Simpson said, “I understand that residents want to be a part of the community consultation about any future developments and I support their right to do so. I encourage Sekisui House to work with the Council and community to find an appropriate balance between job-creating investment and environmental amenity.”
Fiona Simpson said she had been upfront in her opposition to high rise development proposed previously by a local developer which was right on the sand dunes.
“Developments which are five or six star resorts appropriate to local amenity, and sensitive to the natural environment, have been done before in our local area and other regions, and I welcome the exploration of solutions like this for the Sunshine Coast,” said Fiona Simpson.
Fiona Simpson said, “We do need to see new investment on the Sunshine Coast which creates jobs for local people but it has to be environmentally appropriate and involve engagement with the local community. I have called on Sekisui House to release their proposed site plans to allow for proper community consultation and reasonable discussion, rather than speculation or unease. I reaffirm my view that when any development application is received, it should be assessed by Council under their town planning process.”
Fiona Simpson said she will continue to speak with local residents and advocate for informed consultation opportunities.
Until plans are released for discussion, Fiona Simpson encouraged locals to contact her and share their views about an appropriate balance between job-creating investment and environmental amenity.
“We want to keep the Sunshine Coast a great place to live and work, and we all have a stake in that,” said Fiona Simpson.
