The LNP welcomes the Transport Minister’s admission the LNP’s plan to extend passenger trains to Maroochydore is a good plan.
This project is vital to ensuring the South-East can grow, powered by a diverse economy supported by well thought-out infrastructure.
The LNP has pushed this proposal consistently over many years but Minister Bailey wouldn’t support it. We welcome his U-turn.
Our only concern is Mark Bailey’s ability to manage project delivery. The infrastructure projects that will define the next generation into the Olympics and beyond cannot fall foul of Mark Bailey’s Budget Blowouts.
On Mark Bailey’s watch major infrastructure projects have seen extraordinary cost and delivery blowouts:
- $600 million blowout on the Coomera Connector
- $334 million for light rail stage 3 that is now a year behind schedule
- Budget papers show Cross River Rail is hundreds of millions of dollars over budget that we know about. Mark Bailey has also confirmed it will miss the promised 2024 delivery deadline.
It is imperative we are upfront about these realities so we can work together to ensure our Olympics are the best the world has ever seen and delivers infrastructure to shape our state for a generation.
This opportunity is far too important for our state to be subjected to more of the same from Mark Bailey.
Queensland cannot afford more of Mark Bailey’s Budget Blowouts.
