The State Government has committed an additional $1 million works on Maroochydore Road from the Sunshine Motorway east to Main Road.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said work on the 500m stretch would start in the forthcoming financial year.
“This section was identified as a high priority for works and will link the areas west of the Sunshine Motorway and east towards Maroochydore that have already had pavement works carried out.
“I am very pleased to see the money allocated as the work needed to be done on this section of the road is a more complex project requiring more detailed planning than the resurfacing work which has been carried out in other sections.”
“The project involves removing the existing pavement and replacing it with a high-quality asphalt surface.
“This will improve the pavement surface and provide smoother driving for motorists, prolonging the life of the pavement and reduce future maintenance costs.”
Design is expected to be completed in coming weeks, with construction expected to start in late 2013 or early 2014.
Further information about the works will be provided to the community before construction begins.
The project is being funded out of $5 million allocated to rehabilitate high priority sections of Maroochydore Road.
