Sunshine Coast boaties are set to benefit from an upgrade to local marine infrastructure as part of the LNP Government’s $50 million Marine Infrastructure Fund.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the latest round of marine infrastructure projects will deliver a new boat ramp and floating walkway for anyone using the Maroochy River.
“A new two-lane boat ramp and floating walkway will be built at Twin Waters, on Nojoor Road in the Maroochy River providing extra infrastructure for this busy spot,” Ms Simpson said.
“Planning will now commence for the new infrastructure with the final construction due for completion in time for Christmas 2016.
“With an ever-increasing number of boat owners accessing our waterways and harbours, the Marine Infrastructure Fund has been able to provide much-needed facilities and upgrades to some of our most popular recreational fishing spots.
“Most of the projects go a long way to promoting safety in and around the water, as well as reducing congestion in peak periods.”
Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the Marine Infrastructure Fund has been delivering for boaties and anglers since 2012.
“More and more Queenslanders are heading out to enjoy our stunning creeks, rivers and waterways, so we need to make sure our facilities can handle the increase in users,” Mr Emerson said.
“We have a strong plan to deliver better infrastructure – and we’re committed to supporting the state’s tourism and marine economies.
“In the past two and a half years, 42 projects have been finished and are being enjoyed by the boating and angling community, with 20 more projects in the planning, design or construction phases.
“This investment for the Sunshine Coast is one of the final four projects announced this week bringing the total to 66 new and upgraded marine facilities funded across Queensland.”
Other projects in this final round include:
– upgrading the Ocean Creek boat ramp on Peggy Bog Road, Airdmillan
– widening of the Nerimbera boat ramp in the Fitzroy River from two to four lanes
– widening of the Coorooman Creek boat ramp at Zilzie from two to four lanes
