The State Government has confirmed that funding for the M2M (stage 6) project to deliver a safer cycle and pedestrian pathway for the 1.2 kilometre stretch between Alexandra Headland and Maroochydore has been removed from the four-year funding program.
This is a broken promise from the Government and until they restore it to four-year QTRIP Program their assurances that it will still happen are hollow.
I’ve asked the Transport Minister in Parliament as to when the funding will be restored and when the project will be built and he has refused to answer.
We all supported the redesign of the project and fought hard for a promise that the money would not be removed. However it’s a kick in the guts to the community who still know there needs to be a safer pathway and cycleways sooner, not some indefinite time in the future.
Until the money is returned and a timeframe to urgently build this project is given, I will call it for what it is – a broken promise from the Government – and I will fight to get it restored and fixed.
