On 9 October I completed the seventh annual Lift the Lid Walk for Mental Health. This walk was started by local mental health advocate, Vicki Stewart, with a vision to lift the lid on mental health, to make it ‘okay, not to be ok’ and be able to talk about that. The walk started here on the Sunshine Coast and are now held all over Australia and raising serious money for mental health research through Australian Rotary Health (ARH).
This year the weather held out for the event and saw the biggest walk yet, with a sea of close to 600 walkers and raising over $20,000. The Mooloolaba walks alone have raised a total of over $80,000. This year was also extra special as it saw Vicki acknowledged for her work and receive the Australian Rotary Health Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution and meritorious service to ARH. Congratulations and well deserved.
People like Vicki are why I love where I live – we have some amazing people in our community.
