Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson today said Labor’s figures on roads did not add up and needed correcting.
Ms Simpson, discussing issues in her electorate, said Labor had been wrongly advised when claiming funding for Maroochydore Road was cut in the State’s budget.
Ms Simpson said the opposite was true as she confirmed that almost $5 million has been allocated in the 2012-13 financial year to complete pavement rehabilitation on Maroochydore Road. Rehabilitation is being carried out in a staged approach with the first section between the Main Road/Greig Street intersection and the Sunshine Homemaker Centre to start in October 2012.
Ms Simpson said that the LNP Government has committed $3.95 million for cycling facilities on David Low Way in the 2012-13 financial year. This was a $300,000 increase in funding from the previous QTRIP and demonstrated ongoing commitment for cycling facilities for coast residents.
“This follows the recent completion of a 2.3km cycle and pedestrian path between the Maroochy River Bridge and Ocean Drive, Pacific Paradise,” Ms Simpson said.
Ms Simpson said the claim that money had been cut from Maroochydore Road near Pike Street was also incorrect as this work finished in 2008.
Funding has also been confirmed for safety improvements on the Sunshine Motorway south of Coolum with planning work starting this year with construction of the $510,000 project due for completion in 2014/15.
