Sunshine Coast community and volunteer groups can now apply for a share of $1.35 million in State Government funding to buy essential items to help their local communities.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the community groups should take advantage of the Newman Government’s Caring for our Community election commitment, which will provide a total of $4 million in small grants over three years.
“The State Government is providing $1.35 million this year for small grants as part of this program to help give local community groups a boost,” Ms Simpson said.
“Grants of up to $5,000 are available towards small equipment items and materials, such as computers, upgraded software or white goods.
“Organisations can also apply for bigger grants of up to $15,000, which may be considered for more substantial projects, such as making food preparation areas compliant with regulations.
“Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to our local community and I’m committed to supporting their activities.
“I would encourage all community and volunteer groups to apply for funding under this new initiative.”
Applications can now be made online at www.communities.qld.gov.au until 3.00pm on Monday 4 December 2012
