Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson is celebrating news of a $1.1 million funding win for road safety improvements at the intersection of the David Low Way and Tanah Street East/west at Mt Coolum.
Ms Simpson said the upgrade of this intersection is in response to concerns raised by local residents about the difficulties of turning right at this intersection onto the busy David Low Way.
“I am delighted to hear that funding of $1.1 million has been announced for an upgrade to this intersection including new traffic lights,” Ms Simpson said.
“Local residents raised safety concerns with me about this intersection last year as there had been a number of crashes involving right-turn movements from Tanah Street West onto the David Low Way and I asked the Department of Transport and Main Roads to investigate this.”
“Planning and design works for this upgrade can now commence that funding has been confirmed for delivery of this project in the 2016-17 financial year under the Safer Roads Sooner program.”
Local resident Richard Fraser said that he was pleased to hear that Ms Simpson had listened to his concerns and taken action.
“The current design of this intersection makes it dangerous for local residents to turn right onto the David Low Way,” Mr Fraser said.
“Traffic signals at this intersection will make it much safer for all road users.”
