Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson welcomed news of a $174,000 funding announcement for road safety improvements at the intersection of the Aerodrome Road and Wirraway Street (near McDonalds) in Maroochydore.
Ms Simpson, who lobbied for the upgrade, said this was in response to safety concerns raised by local residents.
The proposed works will restrict the right-turn movement out of Wirraway Street by installing new traffic islands at the intersection and provide improved pedestrian facilities for crossing Wirraway Street.
“I am delighted to hear that funding of has been provided to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists at this intersection.
“Planning and design works for this upgrade will commence now that funding has been confirmed for delivery of this project in 2018 under the Safer Roads Sooner program.”
